MEANINGFUL USE ATTESTATION FOR EHR INCENTIVE PAYEMTS

The first incentive payment began in May of this year. Many practices have found that while their software is certified, the report of this information is lacking. We have discovered that to be certified, a vendor only had to collect the data, it did not have to develop a reporting mechanism to give you the data in a verifiable format. We are interested in hearing from practices that have actually attested to share your experience and challenges. Send your information to: information@cjconsultinghelp.com
We currently working with clients whose software does not report the data accurately or cannot give them a list of their unique patients so the data can be verified manually. If you are registering for the Texas Medicaid EHR Incentive Payment, you will need to attend the webinar on February 3, 2011 to get all the details. You cannot participate in both the Medicare and Medicaid incentive programs, and states are not required to provide the Medicaid incentive program. Texas does however provide the program, and we have attached a link to register for participation.

TRANSITION TO THE 5010 TRANSACTION DATA SET

The current 4010 transaction data set will not accommodate ICD-10, so in 2007, a request was made to the Secretary of HHS to modify HIPPA to replace version 4010A1 with version 5010. The final Rule was published January 16, 2009 and makes the 5010 transactions mandatory on January1, 2012. This deadline will not be postponed despite an outcry for a contingency plan to handle transactions if there are not enough carriers and vendors compliant to keep payments moving to providers.

SGR REARS ITS UGLY HEAD:

On December 16, President Obama signed legislation that would delay the 25% cut in Medicare payments to physicians for one year. This gave congress a year to come up with a new formula to replace the flawed SGR formula. However, they have tried for 10 years to fix this formula but instead, have repeatedly passed legislation to circumvent the cuts. We still face another crisis at the end of the year which will drive even more physicians out of the Medicare program if a permanent fix cannot be passed. The payments to physicians will become a serious political issue as we move toward an election year in 2012.
